Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced charges of disseminating untruths regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the couple's significant age difference.

The court delivered suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has yet to be released.

A persistent false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.

This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the first lady's biological sex.

Their legal filing states that Owens disregarded any factual proof contradicting her allegations in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has often echoed these allegations on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.

The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
